Critique from part time designer:
- very nice concept
- Try using the A/V in the logo for glyphs for amoveo text
- try some sightly desat red/green as a color scheme - pastel red/green should also work fine as an alternate dark theme
- slightly round off top and bottom corners of the A/V for a less aggressive look
- try alt version with a 1-2pt outline seperating the tails of the A/V from the background circle - might give a bit more contrast, but will need to see how it looks with colors

I lowered the mining pool fee on this pool from 1% to 0%

We need to move more of the hash power away from amoveopool2 because of the risk of 51% attacks.
I can't safely launch a bitcoin-veo exchange while one mining pool has >50% of the hashpower.
Please move some of your mining power to this different pool.

22:02
Zack
Yes, it is unfortunate that amoveopool2 holds your money hostage.
I let anyone leave early by just sending me their pubkey.
22:09
O K
If you had as much volume as we do, you would not have time for individual payouts. No need to resort to manipulative smear language like "hostage".
As veo goes up in value, the payout threshold will continue down. Many of you could stop mining now and you will receive payment after the difficulty adjustment.
22:13
Zack
For me emptying someone's account is as easy as copy pasting their pubkey from chat into my terminal.
If this is too expensive and time consuming, you could charge a fee for the effort of copy-pasting the pubkey.
22:14

Zack In your mine pool, I can only see submission shares. How to view the mined coins.

Shares get converted into veo as the pool finds more blocks.

all the mining pubkeys are basically the same, so it isn't so easy to have a target.

@Stoner19 I set mine up on a VPS and ran in prod mode and was still having problems with peers updating me
23:29
You are probably having a problem where you are having problems connecting to peers so it is removing them from your peer list
23:29
I would detach, then run the clear command (don't remember what it is) and try to start over and see if your peer list is full again (i had about 10 maybe to start)
23:30
But to make sure that I was actually being notified, I had to go to veoscan and add peers manually from the list.

how easy would it be to integrate with ethereum/cosmos?
12:32

Cross chain atomic swaps to ethereum should be doable.
And cross chain atomic swaps should be fairly easy, because we already have lightning payments in Amoveo.
Linking up to cosmos might be impossible, because of how our oracle is connected to the consensus mechanism.
I am not certain either way.

We are trying to be popular for having a good product with features that are in demand.
We don't want to grow just because we are listed on an exchange.

@potat_o is falling victim to one of the major fail-modes of voting.
This is one of the reasons that voting is unsuitable for blockchain mechanisms.

I'd add option 10 (I dont care about the color, design is great)

Folks: just my 2 cents - as almost 4 to 5 options here look great, you can use the black as base and all purpose version and different colours to signify different contexts of usage. e.g. black on any future gui wallets, red for mining pools, blue for oracle interfaces etc etc

A lawyer keeps messaging me saying that it is too risky for me to launch an exchange.
Maybe I should be partnering with someone who already has the legal structure in place for an exchange, and I can maintain the server and the software.
09:06
@potat_o is doing something like this to run a mining pool. Maybe he wants to run an exchange too?

are there any plans in motion to get listed on existing exchanges? binance/bittrex etc?
09:10

any plans to ever to do that?
09:11

One strategy would be to launch an exchange with a ridiculously high trading fee. That way there is a big incentive for someone else to take over as soon as possible.
09:11
Aurelius | Synapse [Never DM First]
Zack, why not get it listed on a dex?

I wrote software for the lightning network. It shouldn't be too difficult to modify it to work with a DEX.
09:11

can anyone besides Zack initiate these governance oracles?
09:45
Zack
yes. my ability to make transactions on the blockchain is the same as anyone else's.
09:46
Toby Ganger
in theory right? but in practice wouldn't it require some crazy difficult command line programming to make that happen no?
09:46
Toby Ganger
for example, why hasn't anyone set up an oracle to alter the block time or inflation rate?
09:47
Mr Flintstone
that’s a good question
09:47
it is not difficult though
09:47
it actually costs some veo atm
09:47
Toby Ganger
is it possible to create a governance oracle to eliminate the dev fee for example? (hypothetical)
09:47
Zack
yes, anyone can do that.
09:48
well, you can only adjust the governance variables by 50% at a time, so it would take a while to go all the way to 0.
09:48
Toby Ganger
is there anyone in the world who is familiar enough with the obscure command line parameters to do it though?
09:49

Here is the command for making an oracle that can either raise my wage 30%, lower it 30%, or leave it the same.
api:new_governance_oracle(developer_reward, 30).
09:51
you can copy paste that exactly, no changes. one single line.
09:51

09:56
Toby Ganger
has anyone ever launched an oracle and what was the outcome?
09:58
goons
So how does the “voting” work ? Each governance decision is sent to each account and there are certain number of blocks to input your answer ?
10:01
Mr Flintstone
the block reward was briefly raised from 1 to 1.5 outside the dev reward
10:01
Mr Flintstone
it’s futarchy style betting
10:01
everyone bets on true false or bad question
10:02
these are called the three types
10:02
goons
But the question is sent to each account ? Each node ? Time limit to bet ?
10:02
Mr Flintstone
the type of your bet can get matched with bets of the other two types
10:03
you can get matched on 1:1 basis only
10:03
the net unmatched amount on a type determines the oracles type output state
10:03
if it has been on this state for long enough the oracle can be finalized
10:03
winning matched types double money and losers lose all. and any markets pay out accordingly
10:04
Zack let me know if correct
10:09
anyone can bet on the question. no time limit because oracles finalize as described above. There is a starting height parameter
10:09
Zack
the record of every oracle on the blockchain can be read oracles:all().
10:10
there is no voting. voting is an insecure mechanism unsuitable for blockchains.
We use nakamoto consensus to come to consensus, and we use betting so that the situation can escalate to the point where we can afford to use nakamoto consensus. I wrote a lot about this in the docs.
10:11
you are correct Mr Flintstone. Very impressive that you know all this.

General: What problem does Amoveo Solve?
Token economics: what is the token supply? i understand that the community will decide, when is it expected? is the token inflationary?
Mining: what are the minimum specs for mining? I understand that the only way to get the token is by mining or OTC.

supply is 25k. There are truly no expectations right now for what the supply will be, but we can open a market to bet on this, and the market will tell us an implied probability. In this way we can get a sense of what the monetary policy will probably be relative to block time and block reward

The lightning network is a very central concept for Amoveo. We have a more powerful lightning network with turing complete contracts inside of it.

04:28

so business as usual for fpgas

With zacks help I wrote a post about how amoveo’s oracle works including walk through of an oracle life cycle. it will hopefully help people understand the oracle better
22:34
O K
That's great news
22:34
Mr Flintstone
i tried to have it designed to be easy to understand, so if any part of this post fails in that aspect please let me know

Did you also post on the ANN or twitter or somewhere else besides github? Most folks won’t check github

no - if people think it is a helpful / clear explanation, probably makes sense to put on twitter etc you are right

If the node serves you the software I wrote, then it is very trustless. You don't trust any blockchain data, instead your light node verifies Merkel proofs for all of it.
It is also secure against attacks of omission, which is a security vulnerability for all bitcoin light nodes. You light node doesn't necessarily know about all the transactions effecting your account.
The software I wrote never sends your private key to anyone else.
If you download bad light node software, then it can do anything. It could steal all your coins, or send your private key to an attacker.

Thanks for the blog post Zack. This is helpful to have the concepts in simpler language for explanatory purposes.

will there be the possibility of dapps on amoveo?
04:32
Mr Flintstone
amoveo supports Turing complete smart contracts in channels
04:33
there are not on-chain smart contract as far as I know
Zack
04:45
Zack
mr flintstone is right.
04:47
Zack
So far I programmed 2 smart contracts.
One if for doing lightning payments in the channels, the other is for markets to bet on the outcome of an oracle. It is a binary-forwards contract

is there something like bitcoin opcodes?

any possibility of shifting the decimal point over a few spaces to make more units? for example...if it was moved over 4 spaces...it would have 250 million coins and each one would be about .035 USD....as illogical as it is...people do have an inherent unit bias towards "cheaper prices" as they're more digestible...
06:59
Mr Flintstone
it is up to whoever is coding the wallet. The actual amoveo blockchain does not have any concept of “veo”. Satoshi is the only unit
06:59
we can start using mveo (1000 mveo per veo) if ppl feel like it’s too expensive
07:00
Toby Ganger
obviously...same as Bitcoin....but there is an important psychological component to these things no matter how arbitrary
07:02
if one is going to switch to mveo...it would be wise to implement that early on...it's harder to make that psychological switch as it enters the collective crypto conscious
07:02
Mr Flintstone
yeah it becomes more difficult over time definitely
07:04
O K
Well, it's parabolic right?
07:04
Toby Ganger
for example...a VEO showing up on coinmarketcap with a price of $3.50 for 2.5 million coins has a much better public perception than a $350 coin for 25 thousand coins
07:05
especially if/when the price is in thousands per
07:05
O K
Because we will stop using USD.
07:05
It will be easier to say "1 Veo = 10 BTC"
07:05
Toby Ganger
i always price everything in satoshis...but it will be a good while before most people do
07:06
O K
Maybe it will catch on
07:06
Toby Ganger
welcome to the blockchain...things are about to change...(but it's gonna take some time).
07:07
it usually takes a decade for society to catch up to new technology..so even though we're 9 years in...it didn't really enter the public conscious till 2013 at all...and not really in a major way until 2017

hello! can somebody tell me how to sign an offline transaction?
10:48
Deve Kliman
ok so if i download that
10:48
and create a wallet, can i make an offline tx?
10:49
oh yeah i have that one, but is there a new one? it didn't seem to sign a transaction for me and give me anything i can use to broadcast it to the network
Deleted invited Deleted Account
11:00
Deve Kliman
hi
Zack that wallet doesn't seem to be able to sign an offline transaction
11:03
you have to do "raw spend" while connected to the network. you use a watch-only wallet for this.
Then you sign it on a cold storage machine.
Then you use the same light node page while connected to the network to broadcast.
Same process you would go through for bitcoin cold storage.
11:15
ok so i think i get it.. when i do the raw spend.. does it save a file somewhere?
11:15
so there is an important aspect of a wallet being synched with the blockchain to make the raw spend
11:35
i generated an offline signed transaction
11:35
i can paste it in pm?
11:36
anyway i pasted it into the "broadcast transaction" box and when i click to broadcast, nothing happens. there is no indication i have done anything
11:42
Zack
When you do raw spend it displays the raw tx in your browser. You can copy paste it into a thumb drive or whatever to move it to cold storage.
11:43
Deve Kliman
right that's what i did
11:43
Zack
The blockchain needs to be synced to make a tx in bitcoin because you need to know about unspent transaction outputs.
In Amoveo it needs to be synced because you need to know what your current account nonce is.
11:43
Deve Kliman
i brought it to the cold wallet, signed the raw tx
11:43
Zack
yes. the transaction eventually is put onto the blockchain. it doesn't have anything you need to keep secret.
11:43
Deve Kliman
brought it back to the online wallet, loaded it over again, put in the pubkey then put in the signed tx
11:44
right i did paste it to you in pm
11:44
but when i do press the broadcast button, should i see any confirmation?
11:45
Deve Kliman
i just don't know whether or not my signed transaction was accepted
11:45
Zack
I don't recall.
There is no harm in broadcasting the same tx more than once. it can't get included more than once.
11:45
Deve Kliman
ok so i pressed the button a few times
11:45
and gave it to you to try
11:45
Zack
To see if it is accepted you can also check one of the block explorers.
11:46
Deve Kliman
to broadcast a tx what should you do on the wallet page?
11:46
Deve Kliman
is it necessary to paste the public wallet number?
11:46
Zack
or you can check your balance in the page I already shared.
11:46
Deve Kliman
yeah the balance hasn't changed
11:46
Zack
to broadcast your pubkey doesn't matter.
11:46
Deve Kliman
after about 15 mins
11:47
Zack
which light node are you broadcasting with?
11:47
Deve Kliman
ok so it's just a matter of loading the wallet page, pasting the signed tx into the signed tx box, and hitting broadcast
11:47
any other suggestions?
11:47
Zack
I suggest not using this one, since there is no way to use the explorer from the same node.
11:48
Deve Kliman
ok so which one?
11:50
i think for the light wallet it needs to at least give me some feedback when i tap a button...
11:50
as in... "sorry no transaction was published."
11:50
"your transaction has been published, here is the tx hash"
11:51
so far i don't see a tx hash
11:51
or a change in balance
11:52
would it let me sign a tx on the airgap computer if i didn't have the correct key loaded?
Set Animals invited Set Animals
Royal joined group by link from Group
12:05
Zack
It might let you sign with an invalid key.
Then the tx would be invalid.
This is an important failure mode we should test. Thank you for the suggestion.
12:42
Deve Kliman
yeah i really want to KNOW i have a public and private key pair that matches
12:42
i sent you the signed tx... so you can look in your browser console to see if it's working right or not
12:56
Toby Ganger
can I again propose it's worth considering shifting the decimal point so that the supply is 2.5 million or 25 million so that price is digestable for the unit biased masses
12:58
maybe it won't be a problem for index funds or hedgefunds..but small investors get frightened by the higher prices because they don't really understand or like the concept of buying fractions of a coin
12:59
Jim
It’s up to exchanges and such to decide if they want to list MVEO (hint hint)
13:00
Toby Ganger
no...it's up to developers to decide if they're going to implement an oracle to move the decimal
13:00
trying to switch to micro units after using larger units is very hard to do
13:01
Toby Ganger
the tech is great but is not currently human facing
13:01
Jim
Node is based off of satoshis, as with bitcoin/ethereum
13:02
Toby Ganger
so would it require a fork to change the balances?
13:02
balances should change...so one VEO becomes 1000
13:03
i understand it's ultimately irrelevant in terms of quantity...but psychologically this stuff is important...thus why i mention the human facing component
13:03
Aurelius | Synapse [Never DM First]
yeah unfortunately I believe a fork would be required
13:03
and tony I agree with you
13:06
Zack
No fork necessary.
It is like Jim Hsu said. It is up to exchanges and wallets how to display the number.
13:06
Toby Ganger
which means they'll display it as it currently is
13:07
for the sake of simplicity and uniformity
13:14
Jim
Could just edit JavaScript and multiply the numbers shown by 1000
13:24
Toby Ganger
there needs to be generally understood numbers for supply.....supply is either 25k, or 25 million...needs to be a standard for CMC for example
14:05
Sebsebzen
So Sat is the denominator under the hood so to speak
14:05
And display is all about wallet etc?

just changing the wallet wouldnt work tho
15:13
you got 9 wallets that display mVeo one displays VEO, imagine the panic
15:13
or confusion when ppl mix it up
15:13
you either hardfork and multiply every balance by 1000 so you can keep VEO or it stays as it is
15:13
block reward would have to increase aswell tho

I have been looking at the explanation on how oracles work on amoveo in
https://github.com/zack-bitcoin/amoveo/blob/master/docs/blog_posts/oracles_overview.md The summary says "As you can see, the proper functioning of question oracles in Amoveo relies on VEO holders’ willingness to bet against incorrect bets. This willingness relies on the assumption that miners will follow the chain where the final oracle types are true representations of what happened. This is the same kind of consensus Bitcoin uses. As long as holders can rely on this fact, they will be comfortable to take the other side of any incorrect oracle bets. Also, if this assumption holds, nobody would even want to bet on the incorrect outcome because they would definitely lose money" Is not this the same as other oracles like Augur and others ... basically you lose your stake if you do not say what happened accurately ... or am I missing something? what are the differences? Thanks

Augur has a subcurrency called Rep. It is expensive because they need to pay all the rep holders to keep the price of rep high enough.
Ours is much more affordable.
Augur is only secure if the volume of bets is less than the subcurrency's market cap.
Ours is secure no matter how many bets there are.
