I think there will be a delay. But what you do is FUD. All official channels are Communicating q2. Just because our stomach says "no it will be later" yiu cant tell so. Thats what fud is. Did you even read the Blog Post?

00:19

we can use amoveo to separate thr FUD from the truth
00:19
I am trying to do that right now
00:19
Marv
I wouldnt because i think it will delayed, but it isnt and there is nothing that let it seem delayed right now
00:19
I P
man i don't know if it is fud but aeternity took a lot of money from people long time ago and they are not in a hurry to launch anything working
00:20

I think what people are talking about when they say "delayed" is that it says in the blog that some things will be finished in august
00:20
I P
what was the original roadmap release date? i don't remeber, but it is due
00:21

00:53
Zack
@kitty123 their original launch date was Q1. Which is when Amoveo launched.
00:55
I didn't know their testnet is working very good. Maybe we should copy some of their code.
I will test it out now.
00:56
It seems like they don't have instructions for compiling. The only way to try out the testnet is to use a pre-compiled release.

00:58
Zack
Hard to call their testnet "very good" if there is no script for building.
It is impossible to try modifying the code if you cannot rebuild.
It is nearly impossible to learn or test if I can't modify the code.
01:01
I wonder what their 30 programmers are doing if they can't even build the software.
Maybe they are doing this to stop people like me from looking at their work.
01:02
O K
I think you hit the nail on the head
01:02
Maybe they're letting you do the work
01:03
Would be genius. So mainnet comes with amoveos testnet 😜
01:03
Zack
oh, this is just a dependency issue. they are using a different version of erlang
01:04
Amoveo launched main net 3 months ago.
01:05
Marv
Ah in the time they did their testnet - hehe 😁
01:38
Zack
I gave up trying to compile it, and now the release isn't working either.
01:40
I am good at erlang and blockchain. So if I can't get either their release to work, or compile their software, then I have to say that it is not "very good" yet.

Depends on your card, but the newer version allows you to use the 1.4 kernel version as an argument

10:13
I P
ok, try amoveopool2. it works well and now is protected from ddos. During ddos we all were unable to mine stable on any pool.. now it is fixed
10:14
jayntguru
now it's a chicken/egg problem.. my buddies spent all day there and didn't earn crap. 1 block in 24 hours is rough.
10:14
need to get coordinated groups to agree to move together.

if we could just all agree to get off the china pool I think things would even out a bit.
10:16
Mr Flintstone
let’s not change our ticker
10:16
I P
ap2 got 10 blocks in 24 hours. the problem is that stats for earning are updated there with a lag so you might think that you earn nothing but in reality you earned already
10:16
Mr Flintstone
that is some weak shit
10:17
jayntguru
it is hard as hell to bench your earnings with this coin.
10:18

people care too much right now about their own pockets even if there is no real reason to be afraid of not making enough money

gotta pay for electricity and try to ROI these cards at the same time. every penny counts. :)
10:27
I P
don't start that bullshit please
10:28
amoveo mining gets more than enough for paying bills and roi
10:32
if we are able to establish stable and more decentralized network (in terms of pool hashrate balance) your mined coins will cost more
10:33
jayntguru
I'm not arguing against it. just saying that my 36 hours on shitfish were far from profitable. .034 with 9 gpu's running isn't enough.
10:34
Jim
@kitty123 it is technically possible to build an “altruistic pool” that randomly redirects incoming getwork requests to another random pool?
10:34
I don’t know enough about mining pools to know if that is possible
10:39
I P
i think that this should be possible. Altruism does not really work with blockchains though, so there should be other incentives
10:40
i don't know if it could be done, but lets say that if miners are concentrated on 1 or 2 big pools network monitors that almost all blocks go to 1 or 2 wallets of those pools and cuts block reward
10:41
Mr Flintstone
I think the incentive would have to be paying miners. but you would need to pay them in excess of how much they would lose from that strategy
10:41
cuz if they aren’t mining the best pool for them they are losing out
10:41
Jim
Incentives not the hard part. We can enroll addresses that participate in a lottery for instance, and use part of dev fee to cover. Just curious if possible.
10:41
Mr Flintstone
can you prove they switched pools?
10:41
Jim
Yes, that’s what I’m wondering
10:41
Mr Flintstone
I guess yeah if we centralized the admission
10:42
but that’s hardly the kind of proof people like
10:42
I P
the only problem here is that you can write custom pool software so it rotates many wallets for 1 pool and this punishment won't work
10:43
Mr Flintstone
I guess you could technically ask the oracle in some horrifically inefficient way
10:43
but maybe there is a way to ask it in a clever manner
10:44
Jim
I’m betting someone on bitcointalk’s dev forum has thought of this. Might be worth searching there
10:45
I P
I don't know if
Zack knows how to solve current miner centralization issue, i hope he knows
10:45
Mr Flintstone
can you simplify it to making a mechanism to pay one miner only for switching pools?
10:45
i feel like that is easier to reason about
10:46
have them commit some stake with a pubkey
10:48
I P
i remember before that DDOS attack on all pools miner distribution was much better, like 4 pools had 15-30% each and all other were on smaller pools

Deleted invited Deleted Account
05:36
Luke B
Zack So effectively it costs .34 to create a market? Can that cost come down precipitously?
05:37
Zack
Yes
Mr Flintstone has been researching this. We came up with a plan.
05:38
Luke B
@Jbreezy0 Can you share the plan?
05:43
Gonzalo
nothing happened after selecting private key file
05:45
Also tried "switch account" but no luck
05:46
I can only see new accounts created with the extension
06:01
J M
is your private key stored in a .txt file?
06:03
Mr Flintstone
we split oracle liquidity into two variables. one for question and one for governance
06:03
question oracle I believe can be very, very cheap
06:03
like < 0.001 veo cheap
06:04
Luke B
@Jbreezy0 What is the timeline for this? I don't believe we will see new markets until the question market drops. Governance is understandable
06:04
J M
Gonzalo any error message or anything?
06:04
Mr Flintstone
I agree that we definitely need cheap oracles to drive adoption
06:05
we need to hard fork the protocol in order for this to happen
06:05
Gonzalo
yes... well finally I got it 😳 I did nothing special, just create a few more new keys and then tried again importing and it worked
06:06
J M
hmm that's odd. i'll look over the logic and see if i can figure out why
06:06
Gonzalo
ok nice, let me restart and try again as well
06:08
Luke B
@Jbreezy0 So what is the process that needs to happen to lower question fees, I guess im missing something
06:09
Mr Flintstone
well, we are going to fork the protocol
06:09
this fork will result in a variable for question oracle liquidity
06:09
we will then set this to initially be like 0.001 veo
06:10
then, question oraclesare cheap. if there are any problems, we still have the option to raise this fee via the governance process
06:14
Luke B
@Jbreezy0 Awesome, do you have any estimations for when this will be done?
06:25

I've uninstalled and reinstalled like 6 times, it happened again only 1 time

@potat_o are you planning on adding worker name support? I think you would get a lot more miners if you did. I know people that don't mine to your pool because the other pools support worker names. Also if they do use your pool as a back up fail over pool it won't work because they have a worker name added

This will prevent the difficulty from dropping by more than 17% at a time.
Deleted invited Deleted Account
04:59
Zack
Otherwise we could get caught in an oscillating difficulty that could destroy Amoveo.
05:13
Jon Snow
Is there any specific reason to choose 17% as the threshold? I’m just curious
05:25
Zack
I looked at a few different choices.
one option was to do the average of the current and target difficulties.
Another option was the geometric mean between the current and target difficulties.
05:26
Difficulty almost never decreases, so this is code that will almost never be run.
So I think it is not very important to make it perfect.
1/6th is easy to remember and understand.
05:27
Mr Flintstone
amoveo does not need fast blocks to operate anyways. we have channels.
05:28

guys, pham huong release new miner 2.3
https://github.com/PhamHuong92/VeoMiner/releases it has good improvements especially for amd, please check readme. for amd kv=5 and sk=2 works good, you can run d=all with 2.3 and these settings. my rx580 went from 1.6 to 1.8GH/s. Also 2.3 release autotines b= and n= arguments for best performance, don't put them when using kv=5
10:30
Also there is a lot of whining from miners at discord about profit and etc. right now gtx1070 can get you around 1.7$ (whattomine). with veo at 2.5GHs and 46500000GH per block (veo) you get roughly 0.0046 veo per day which is 2-2.3$ if you count on price 450-500 per veo. so mining veo is more profitable anyways
10:45
Sy
If you would get a theoreticly calculated max that's true
10:46
Try 0.0032 for real
10:49
I P
i used 2.5gh but people get 2.7 from 1070 so i lowered by 10% already. therory peak it 0.05 veo per day@1070, if i lower it to 0.04 to make more real- still at least 1.8$ per day which is better than theory peak from whattomine coins...
11:41
Sy

30% is not sustainable for long term

it is 20% and it is locked untill some block when Zack will be able to use it in future. After that i think Zack wanted to issue grants to other devs through contracts using these funds. Also dev fee can be changed through governance oracle in future so i would not be worried about that

11:18
Zack
My laptop can sync blocks a little more than twice as fast after this update.
It has 2 CPU, so this is a good sign we have parallelized the bottleneck.
Now the txs in each block can be processed at the same time. Including turing complete channel contracts.
It would be cool if we could also parallelize tx processing within each block.
11:24
Mr Flintstone
are there any other chains that can do that, that you know of?
11:25
Zack
I got the tests to pass. Now I am syncing the entire history as a final sanity check
11:25
I think Amoveo is uniquely able to do this.
Since we include all the merkle proofs for all the data you need to verify a block, we can verify blocks in parallel without touching the hard drive.
11:28
It is a trade off. This means that blocks are almost 4x bigger, but we can verify them much faster and in parallel.
In the long run it is expected that downloading blocks will be the bottle neck.
But today in 2018 it seems like verifying blocks in CPU is still the bottleneck, or maybe the hard drive is the bottleneck.

we need to shill veo to bcashers, they like heavy blocks😂😂

It looks like the new version of the software is losing it's advantage as the blocks get bigger.
I think I am copying too much data between gen servers while processing blocks now.
I guess I need to redesign this new code before pushing it to master branch.
12:16
It looks like the new version is averaging about 30% faster on my computer, and it is never slower, so I updated the master branch on github.
14:26
Ben
Zack on the point about verifying the blocks in CPU, Solana recently implemented parallel gpu core signature verification of their blocks. You may want to take a look, as that could be a useful tool as most home computers have a GPU capable of doing the same, assuming you want to further optimize block verification
14:28
So they can verify signatures at 870 thousand signatures per second

well amoveopool2 does not crash database and does not loose shares but it lacks worker implementation. i think this is the main reason why people with big number of rigs don't mine there. i have 3 rigs so i don't really need workers and i mine on ap2
16:49
Sy
ap2 is running fine lately, they reduced the blocks you need to get credited aswell
16:49
they were no 1 with ~80% for a reason :)
16:50
right now imho pool distribution doesnt really matter, numbers are kinda shitty anyway, just keep mining whereever you are and produce those blocks so we get through this...

We have a good design. As time goes on, more projects will start adapting features of amoveo.
18:00
Aizen Sou
we have to find a way to survive next attack from Chinese miners first, Zack
18:05
right now Amoveo network is secured by loyal miners, who are commited to Amoveo. But you can't rely on them all the time and probably with the next attack you can't even move the blockchain anymore because: 1) loyal miners don't have enough power anymore 2) many left because of mistreated
18:07
it's 2018 and the current difficulty raping method didn't happen since 2014. Mining is evolved and u can't rely on old methods anymore, esp. when u started new.
18:08
the timestamp attack from Verge is exceptional, due to the incompentence of their dev. If he is good enough to use better difficulty retarget algorithm, it shouldn't happen
18:09
e.g. at Zcoin we are using BRNDF which retargets every 6 blocks and we were fine with mining since 2 years
18:14
Sebsebzen
Boris’ ridiculously named difficulty function...
18:14
Aizen Sou
u just need to port some of these algorithm from C++ to Erlang, then Amoveo is safe against such attack again, Zack
18:16
Sebsebzen
Link the GitHub, Aizen
18:19
I P
Zack i don't know if algo that proposes Aizen is safe, but i think it is at least worth checking out if
Aizen can provide github link 👍
18:22
Aizen Sou
Safeness was proven with the time. Many blockchains are running these state-of-the-art difficulty retarget algorithms for years.
18:27
Zack
https://github.com/zack-bitcoin/zack-retargetingI invented an exponential retargeting system in 2014 for my project called "basic coin".
It is able to adjust to changes in hashrate within 10 blocks.
I learned a lot by building and attacking mechanisms like this.
18:30
Aizen Sou
and u don't have it for Amoveo ?
18:31
Zack
Slow blocks aren't an issue for Amoveo. It is more important that we are secure against timestamp adjustment attacks.
18:32
Aizen Sou
in theory the timestamp attacks sound scary
18:32
but it's really profitable to perform against coins with very quick block time, like Verge
18:33
and good difficulty retarget algorithms are able to withstand it
18:34
define slow blocks? it's okay for having slow blocks for a few days, 1 week, but it's definitely not okay to have slow blocks for months
18:34
Amoveo will have ASICs, i'm pretty confident about it
18:34
but not at current performance
19:30
Andrey Ivashentsev
Do you know where to buy? :)
19:30
Aizen Sou
at least 30 days more to block 26900. I think network might drop to 10 blocks/day very soon. Many are mining at loss now and some can't keep up anymore soon. It will make 60 days or even longer. Do u think it's okay ?
19:38
Zack
Mining at a loss is bad. They should not do that.
60 days of slow blocks wouldn't be a problem.
19:42
If blocks get slow enough, then transactions would build up. So tx fees would get higher.
The tx fees mean a bigger reward for mining.
So if the blocks get slow enough, then mining would become profitable again.
19:43
Al
But if the fees will be that big, will people still make transactions?
19:44
Zack
Some people pay 0.5 veo for me to escrow their txs.
A block can fit 650 normal txs, or about 900 if you use a multi output tx.
19:48
Al
Zack, people pay for Escrow on big amounts, will they double pay for Escrow + tx? This can go from 60 days to 180 and elsewhere..
19:48
Sy
Plus txs wont pile up...they just drop xD
19:48
Zack
I am writing a tool to automate the escrow process, so I can lower the fee
19:49
I am running tests to identify how txs are being dropped.
19:57
Aizen Sou
So 2 hours block isn't a problem u mean ?
19:58
Zack
Aizen You can read about my thoughts on slow blocks in this link
20:00
Aizen Sou
I read it but i don't agree with them
20:01
Too slow blocks is definitely a problem for users like me
20:01
Like waiting for 2 hours or more to send something
20:02
Al
Slow Lightning network :)
20:59
I P
Zack, currently the situation is like this, 1xgtx1070 card gets me 0.004 veo per day, whattomine gives 1.5$ per day on etc/eth. this is all not counting electricity. Thus, if price is better than 380$ per veo i get the same or better profit then mining eth. Well noone really mines eth except for big farms or lazy people, not hard to find a coin which gets you 2$ per 1070 per day. Veo would need to cost 500+$ to compete. So, if all is not bad, why not more people mine veo? 1st of all, it is not that simple for an average miner to start to do it. Don't overestimate miners, 50+% of hashpower are dumb as fck. 2nd, you need to wait a lot to get a payout. 3rd, hard to buy/sell veo. 4th, those 0.04 are ideal conditions, i think in practise i get less,
@Simon3456 made calculations on that.
Aizen i understand your concerns. I also understand
Zack . I don't know what's a best way to act in ths situation for all of us. So i do what i can to support network- i mine with all my hashpower regardless of profits.
21:03
I do also understand that we need to solve not the current situation with slow blocks but the whole thing when big chinese farms switch on, mine a lot of veo, diff to the moon, they dump veo so price goes down and 'loyal' miners get punished because price is lower and diff is much higher. Also i agree 100% with Zack that we should not overpay miners, we need to pay them just enough to support the network and not to get crazy profits
21:05
so maybe some kind of more advanced diff retargetting algorithm could help. At least it is worth checking what
Aizen proposed as such an algorithm. Of course that algo needs to be strong to not tolerate timestamp attacks and such
21:22
Mr Flintstone
Zack said that he spent a lot of time building and attacking different kinds of retargeting algos morning
21:23
I P
Fun part is a youtube video on how to mine amoveo and why do it (5 minute talk about future and tech) would give us many more miners even at current difficulty and prices. The only thing is that video should be either done by a popular youtube mining channel or done by anyone in our community and just promoted. So i just ask if anyone could do it, if anyone knows people who could do it. I do understand that learning how ot mine veo is not hard but average miners are lazy and dumb and they need a freaking video to explain how to do it
21:28
Demi Yilmaz
I like this attitude, we need a marketing team asap.
21:33
I P
also i know that jackson palmer (creator of dogecoin) is actually is quite a nice dude and has a big youtube channel which he uses to review different crypto technology. I think he would be genuinely interested to take a look at amoveo and tell people about it. i say that because he trully likes a cool new tech in crypto. So if anyone has a reliable way to contact him- please do, i tried to contact through youtube and twitter and was not successful
21:40
Demi Yilmaz
Awesome, we definitely need to get a marketing channel on discord and discuss strategies & what we can do.
Zack care to create such a channel?
21:41
I P
well not a 'team' like in an enterprise, but maybe there are community members who know people with twitter following or youtube following so we could tell more people about why and how to mine amoveo. Clearly, people would not be mining at a loss right now. Not great profit- sure, but not at a loss. Hell at least any guy who could make a video and we could simply like/repost it in social media, that is not hard at all
21:41
Demi Yilmaz
True we can like/repost but should we be marketing to miners? Or to people who will buy and pump the price?
21:42
I believe a decent website, a few infographics, a youtube video and us sharing them around will make this coin profitable to mine again.
21:45
Mr Flintstone
I think otc bid is going to go up too soon, which will help mining profitability
21:46
also, having an exchange will give veo a liquidity premium, which will help too
21:46
that isn’t to say a YouTube video about mining is a bad idea
21:46
I P
true. Well, github is not that bad as a website, but some simple and flashy infographics+youtube video would be enough. 3 minutes on what is veo and why it is better than many other stuff out there+3minutes on who to use veo with light wallet for txns, channels and bets+3minutes on how to mine veo. People nowadays are used to everything being brought up right to their face, they don't like to search, read, try and fail
21:46
Mr Flintstone
cuz I agree, it’s honestly crazy some of the things that some miners don’t know
21:48
I P
miners nowadays know shit. they know that people ought to pay them and thats kind of limit of their knowledge. i'm not talking about people who are crypto enthusiasts AND miners.
21:48
Demi Yilmaz
I used to agree with you on github but after talking to some non developers I realized every single one of them get turned off instantly when they see github interface.
21:49

21:50

21:52

it feels like most of the miners start on eth with little to none knowledge and are vastly overwhelmed when it comes to anything that doesnt run out of the box ^^
22:02
Minieep21
Ok we need someone to tweet to Jackson Palmer so we can all retweet and grab his attention

yep more people, mining veo is profitable but a bit harder than eth
19:47
http://explorer.veopool.pw right now we have 34 blocks per 24 hours when we should have 144. 34 blocks is fine in terms of network but would be cool to get it back to 70-100

So network hashrate has dropped considerably of late? Admittedly I pushed VEO to backburner once hashrate and difficulty was ramping hard and everyone was talking about Chinese miners DDoSing and whatnot

wtm is level 1 for newbie miners. Others are looking for more profitable coins, which can give you at least 1.5-2.5x of etherium mining.

of course eth is easier to start mining and more liquid

most of miners mine coins of whattomine, the goal is to maker veo mining more popular because profit is actually even a bit better than eth. if 5mln videocard have no problem mining eth why not 20 000 of them join us on veo. the answer is they don't know about veo, that's it
