1.3 works like a charm on nvidia though
00:25
Mr Flintstone
how big is bitcoin core on prune 551?
00:28
I P
could not get 1.3 miner to properly work on amd rig (without hanging and with good hashrate). while 1.2 works well. 1.3 leaks memory on amd or smth

Less than a gigabyte.

this is a 30% increase
09:34
anyone have a rough sense of how much electricity costs are per veo mined?
09:34
O K
That's going to vary wildly from one region/rig to another
09:35
Probably less than 20 bucks in most cases
09:36
Mr Flintstone
do you mean 200
09:36
O K
Just electricity costs?
09:37
a 1080 gets say 3 GH/s
09:37
Mr Flintstone
this has to be by far the most profitable coin to mine then if that’s actually the cost for a reasonably skilled miner with public miner
09:38
I P
eth on pumps made more money=)
09:38
O K
and uses let's say 0.2 kW (not factoring in the whole rig, but for the sake of math)
09:39
Mr Flintstone
so 15 days per veo? 3967*1000/3
09:39
So 2 veo per month,
09:39
which would cost 0.2 * 0.1 * 24 * 30
09:40
Mr Flintstone
14 dollars?
09:40
Now you have to factor in the rig electricity
09:40
a decent battery backup will add power draw
09:40
Do you run extra fans
09:41
So, easily double that depending on the setup

You could insure against worker injury, "acts of god" on the jobsite that insurance might not cover, theft, vandalism, completing a difficult job by a certain date which you may receive a bonus for (bet against yourself to hedge)
04:33
Your client defaulting on a contract after purchase of materials and hiring of crew
04:33

And how would i do that in amoveo?
04:34
O K
Or more simply, you could use predictions markets to get a feel for the weather in the jobsite location
04:34
That way you can give your client a more accurate estimate of how long the job will take

false. Amoveo can't insure against worker injury, or theft, or vandalism. most "acts of god" can't be insured by amoveo either.
None of these things work in the oracle.
04:40
you could use Amoveo to prove that there is demand for the houses, which can help you raise money to have them built.

you could do that
04:41
O K
That's exactly one of the things I just listed
04:41
Zack
yes, you are right
04:42
O K
"An employee of company x will successfully draw workman's comp before y date"
04:42

is that something I can easily look up? Assuming I don't even live in the same country.
04:43
O K
I'm just assuming there can be sub markets for localities
04:43
Maybe a false assumption
04:43
Or maybe thinking too far ahead

any sub-market would still have to use the same on-chain oracle. The oracle can only work for things that are easy for anyone to look up.

Zack I think this might be an emergency, there appears to be a bug with
oracle winnings
09:18

Affecting all nodes?
09:18
O K
It's affecting both of mine, and there was a very long block, but we may have just found a block
09:19
Maybe it's not an emergency. It seems to be affecting all nodes, but we found a block, so not urgent
09:27
Zack
I did just make a couple txs of that type
09:28
Can you tell me any more details of what happened different from your expectation?
09:29
Both nodes were spamming like that, very fast
09:29
The long block made me think the network was frozen, but was probably randomness
09:29
Zack
More than once per second?
09:30
That message means it is trying to process an Oracle winnings tx.
09:31
I guess tx pool was crashing repeatedly, and this message happens when it recovers.
I am not certain.
I am glad it recovered ok.
Thanks for telling me this error report.
09:32
O K
I want to say that it was more than once per second, but without timestamps I second guess myself, there were hundreds of the messages
09:33
Mr Flintstone
what was the oracle?
09:33
Zack
Or maybe it was because nodes were sharing this TX over and over. It could be a bug with syncing
09:34

14:53

Interesting, those were both rejected by node
14:53
But it's working again, fine with me!
14:53
Zack
So you are in a situation that happens only 1/4 of the time. This is probably due to randomness.
14:55
Why do you say "again"?
You guys have shared no evidence that it ever stopped working.
14:57
I checked the block stamps for the last 6 hours. There is no gap.
14:58
False.
http://veoscan.ioThis page shows that your node is exactly synced wih the rest.
You didn't reject these blocks.
14:58
Sy
Sure if you don't look for my address lol
14:59
Wtf proofs that? Blocktime went up aswell since 3 th were gone
14:59
Zack
Block time did go up.
So are you saying your mining pool stopped finding blocks for a time?
15:00
Can you tell me what is wrong more clearly?
I can't fix anything if I don't know what is wrong.
15:01
Sy
i dont know just as ok doesnt know
15:01
but the only thing that was different vs the last weeks it worked fine were the oracle winnings
15:02
Zack
Why do you think it isn't fine now?
15:02
What is different from normal?
15:02
Sy
didnt you just check and told me i found 2 blocks?
15:02
trust me, the node rejected those blocks after submit
15:02
thats what i am telling you all along, your response to nonce submit is faulty
15:02
Zack
I don't know which address is yours. I don't know which blocks your pool found.
15:03
sorry man but this is your coin and you should pay attention which 3 addresses are solving all the blocks imho
15:05
anyway, i know you dont believe me since you cant wrap your head around it but its pretty simple
ON NONCE SUBMIT the node return 500 or "0", if it returns 500 it still creates a block every now and then, you can look into it or not but it is there and it is a bug
15:06
and somewhere around 2:38 my time (6.5h ago) something went wrong aswell, probably because of the oracle
15:06
Zack
Oh, bewcaw didn't find blocks for 3 hours

15:07
Zack
Did you do something to fix it?
15:08
to both questions :)
15:08
its a local problem only my node "sees" if it rejects a nonce
15:08
the network will just get a normal block
15:08
Zack
I'm pretty sure the nonce submit thing doesn't stop your pool from finding blocks.
15:09
Sy
scroll up, read it again
15:09
you made those changes, you should know what im talking about
15:10
Zack
Yes, we already talked about the nonce submit thing.
I am more concerned about how your pool didn't find blocks for over 6 hours.
15:10
Sy
so the node rejecting nonces and creating blocks anyway doesnt concern you? neat - if ap2 doesnt catch this they are making around 10% blocks for free which arent paid
15:10
but hey, not important...
15:11
Deleted Account
No one said that it is not important, he is concerning to find the bug u mean.
15:11
But if we can t explain it properly, its harder for him
15:12
Sy
the 6h gap is a mix of the node not returning mining_data and height for no apparent reason and some miners crashing
15:12
Zack
It isn't rejecting the nonce, otherwise the block would be rejected.
The function is just returning the wrong value.
Anyways, we already talked about this and I understand the issue.
I am worried about how you didn't find a block for 6 hours because right now we have no we have no explanation for what happened.
15:12
Sy
it did recover eventually, the miners didnt -> hashpower lost
we will fix the miner but i dont know what happened at the node
15:13
we should have a overall gap around that time...lemme check
15:13
Zack
The mining data part of the Api stopped working in the full node?
15:14
Sy
thats what my logs are telling me...

why is the node still spamming that oracle stuff?

Mining empty blocks? 😱 u mean generating/mining hot Air?
15:41

probably because of the oracle spam i pasted
15:42

the oracle spam is my node trying to send the txs you need to your node.

Mining on Amoveopool2 is currently a waste. It is not paying out any rewards.

15:57
Zack
you can see here the recent txs
http://veoscan.io/txsThere are large periods of time where almost 0 payments are made.
16:00
Zack
The timestamp is only a little off. Not a big deal.
16:02
i did notice tho that pool nonce submits and block timestamp often have several minutes between them
16:03
Zack
it is because I made that change
@Simon3456 suggested.
16:04
Now potential_block doesn't update so often. only when it needs to. This reduces how much wasted work the miners do.
16:04
Sy
40s vs 60s isnt a big change tho 😁
16:04
especially for 10 minutes blocktime target
16:05
Zack
40 v 60 isn't all that was changed.
16:05
Now potential_block doesn't make a new block unless either there are new txs to include, or there is a new block to build on.
That is why the timestamp can be a little old. It doesn't update the time stamp so frequently

Thx. Then the ‘send all’ is not supported? How about the wallet newly generated there? Are they working?
17:09
Zack
we got rid of send-all because the delete-account transaction type was too confusing.
It is insecure to reuse an address after it's account has been deleted, or you can lose all the money you send to that address.
It seemed easier to get rid of the feature instead of trying to explain this to everyone.
17:10
Patrick Sum
I see. Thx.
17:10

I don't understand your question. a "wallet" is software used for owning Veo. I dont' know what you mean by "newly generated wallet"
and when you say "are they working", I dont know what you mean by "they"

I saved the private key from those with ‘send all’ light wallet. Can I use those newly generated private key (wallet) from those outdated light wallet? (Eg

amoveopool2 is active? I've been 14 hours without reward and Accumulating Balance 0.07 when I was 0.040 / hour.
18:20
Zack
there is a problem that is stopping any of the pools from paying rewards.
18:23
Tato
What do you recommend? We stop temporarily mining or continue and recover the lost
18:24
Zack
I guess we should ask
@potat_o Since he is running the pool.
18:25
Sy
He is still finding blocks so that part is working
18:25
And he is finding blocks so he must get shares and hashpower
18:25
Probably just the tx stuck
18:34
Zack
I think I found a short term solution.
In order to get rid of the txs that were causing the crash, I used the same account to make some spend txs that used the same nonce.
So once the spend tx get included in a block, then we will all drop the txs that are causing the problem.
19:09
O K
Once again your node problems you try to pin on me
19:09
Every time you do this opportunistic BS
19:12
My mempool had that many tx last night, when blocks were slow and I was watching the nodes orphan blocks from each other until I couldn't stay awake anymore. The question is how come no ones nodes were including txs? It started at around 21:30 UTC which is I suspect when you closed the oracles. Which I tried to ask you about at 10pm EST
19:14
This is because your oracle winnings oid
is spamming the network
19:16
This was caused by a problem with the Amoveo network nodes. The payments were in the mempool of everyone winning blocks, yet not being included in the blocks for some reason
19:16

Deleted Account
I had accumulating balance and its reseting without giving me coins
19:19
O K
What was the fix? We have never stopped paying out rewards. They are in the mempool.
19:19
And they are in the mempool of both of my nodes.
19:19
So they are propagating through the network.
19:20
Zack
I saw a lot of txs that weren't bring included in blocks mined by you guys.
I am pretty sure the problem with the Oracle was preventing some of the mining pool rewards.
19:21
O K
We have a payment manager that automatically detects and pays out lost transactions
19:21
Such as when a block with payments is orphaned
19:22
If the payments have been lost, that will be detected and they will be resent
19:23
Sy
the node stopped spamming oracle messages and my tx_pool is kinda empty
19:24
Zack
That is good.
When you remake the txs, you will reuse the same nonce, which makes the old tx invalid.
I think it might be possible to over-pay someone if there are multiple rewards waiting to get paid, given the recent bug we had.
19:24
Great.
I was expecting there to be one block wih like 10 tx. To catch up with everything that was being censored by the bug
19:25
Sy
in this scenario, maybe...since txes arent lost, they are just queued
19:25
Sy

I look things up while programming all the time.
I have never once been happy that I have to learn something from a video.
Looking up by text is always better for the developer.
22:53
If a video is easier for you, then you probably aren't the right kind of person to run a mining pool or exchange anyway.
22:53
O K
Videos are supplemental, they don't replace documentation
22:54
They also engage people, some people may want to invest and want insight into the inner workings without doing it themselves
22:55
Zack
Then we could make a video for that.
There are plenty of interesting things an investor could want to know about.
Using a terminal to istall an exchange isn't one of them.

btw Zack what do you think about AION?

When I first switched to Linux a couple years ago, I watched someone install Arch Linux and it filled some gaps in the documentation that were taken as givens by the documenters, because they'd been involved for so long that they had forgotten some things aren't so simple for new people.
When I had to fix my car, I had a repair manual, but it used many words that I was unfamiliar with. I also watched videos of people doing the same repair and it cleared things up.
At any rate someone will make the videos they find worthwhile, I guess there isn't much sense in theorizing about it. Definitely though there are youtubers making bank on their "how to run a bitcoin node" and "how to configure your GPU miner" videos.

I can reproduce the bug by making a single oracle_close tx for the oracle that has been open since 11000.
09:52
this brings us much closer to a solution.
09:54
I think maybe there is some data that isn't being included in the merkel proof.
Each block includes merkel proofs for all the consensus state that gets read to process the block. This is convenient because it means we can verify blocks entirely in RAM.
If one of the Merkel proofs was missing, it would cause a problem like what we are observing.
10:37
Zack
I think I might have recreated the bug. or at least I found another way to cause this to happen.
If you create an oracle, and then delete the account that created the oracle, then it causes this problem.
If anyone else should try to close the oracle, then the tx gets trapped in the mempool and stops the node from making blocks.
I am not sure why this account is even involved with closing the oracle?
Probably it is being unnecessarily read somewhere, and then unused.

It's not about concern. It's a question. Does it exist in Amoveo or not?
20:49

What exactly is returned when the block submitted to the Amoveo node is not accepted?
21:38
Zack
It exists in the form of the block reward variable.
They are both measuring the same thing in different ways.
21:39
It crashes. the http server should return some error code for internal server failure.
21:39
Deleted Account
Ah cool, looks like it's returning "500" in this case
21:51
Aizen Sou
Could u elaborate more, Zack ?
22:05
Zack
Since we can change any of the governance variables at any time, it doesn't matter how the current set of variables would behave if left unchanged.
For governance variables, only pay attention to the next 4000 blocks, because any longer than that, and they could all be changed.
So, the expected future market cap, and the block reward are the same thing.
22:09
Aizen Sou
So in theory we could stop all mining rewards immediately and the miners will get paid by tx fees only?
22:10
And the next 4000 blocks mining rewards could be paid again ? Such scenario is also possible ?
22:17
O K
"Can change" is meaningless if the change is not foreseeable
22:20
Sebsebzen
How would the voting work? By hashpower or amount of coins in wallet or smth else?
22:25
Aizen Sou
I only see block reward, dev reward, max block size and block period in the blockchain variables
22:25
The question is block reward = 0 possible ?
22:48
Zack
We reuse the Oracle mechanism for governance
22:49
Yes, any of the governance variables can be set to 0.
23:53
Mr Flintstone
I thought the governance variables were bound by a % change?
23:53
which is itself a governance variable
00:28
Zack
right. but once you go below 100, then it changes to being an integer change instead of a percent change.
00:59

does 1.3 work with amd?
01:00
also, is there a way to set difficulty?
06:13

I heard that it does not work with amd, but I have not tested myself.
06:13
I think that none of the mining pools support this.
06:51
Mr Flintstone
could you expand on exactly what you mean by “go below 100”?
06:51
Zack
Each governance variable is an integer.
Its lowest possible value is 0.
06:52
the highest value is something like 2^248
06:53
If we tried setting the blocktime to 0, Amoveo would break before we could succeed.

I think the fastest way to grow amoveo right now is by interacting with the augur and aeternity communities.
They are facing repeated delays. They spend a lot of money on looking professional, but don't deliver any working product.
Our oracle is more affordable and more accurate than their designs.
Our markets are much more scalable.
Our market cap is so much lower, so the potential for growth is bigger.
I wrote the minimal viable product for all 3 of these projects. Amoveo was designed after I learned from my mistakes in augur and aeternity. Amoveo has the best design.

I think you’ve mentioned it before. But could you tell me again what amoveo means. Amo, Veo. And what you associated with.
18:55
And how would you describe it in one sentence?
18:56
I think aeternity says “Scalable smart contracts interfacing with real world data.”
18:58
Zack
Amoveo is a word from Romance languages.
In English it is the root of the words "remove" and "move".
It is kind of like "cast-off".
We amoveo the old financial system and hierarchies.
19:00
"Amoveo is a blockchain meant for enforcement of investment and insurance contracts."
This is the main sentence I wrote on github
19:00
but maybe a main sentence should say something about scalable trust-free markets that happen off-chain in the lightning network.

single sha 256

per zack : Amoveo use single SHA256, and the header is smaler. overall, the Amoveo mining algorithm is about 4x shorter than the Bitcoin mining algorithm.
22:11
O K
This is pretty cool actually. If you make it a bit more square (less tall), flatten maybe (no 3d), possibly use slightly different shades for the A and V, and deepen or combine colors like a Venn diagram or plaid where they overlap, and add a circle around it (the O in amoveo) I think it could be really badass

I'm new here, so, is there a roadmap somewhere and how it is different than Aeternity ?
05:14
Zack
There is a todo list of things that need to get done. But no dates on when they will get done.
https://github.com/zack-bitcoin/amoveo/blob/master/docs/todo.mdMy plans for the future have some goals:
1) get a bitcoin-veo exchange working
2) find an initial popular use case for the markets
3) study our first group of users, and keep making their user experience better.
What makes us different from Aeternity.
* Amoveo doesn't use an ICO, instead the tokens are distributed by mining.
* Amoveo is already launched, Aeternity still hasn't launched.
* Amoveo has a game theoretically secure trustless oracle system, Aeternity uses a trustful oracle system.
* Amoveo has turing complete smart contracts off-chain in the lightning network. Aeternity smart contracts are on-chain, like Ethereum.
I wrote this comparison between Amoveo and many of the competitors:
https://github.com/zack-bitcoin/amoveo/blob/master/docs/progress_reports/April_2018.md

Is there a premine ?
05:30
Zack
Yes. I didn't want a premine, but I accidentally gave myself 100 Veo at the start.
It was set up this way for easy testing, and I forgot to turn it off before main net launch.
05:31
This is about the same as 18-hours of mining 10-minute blocks.
05:31
Iridescence
haha so honest
05:32
Zack
or since the block time was 30 seconds at the beginning, it is like a 50-minute premine.
05:32
Those 100 veo are part of the developer reward, so I wont have access to them until block 48000.
05:48
Zack
Bitcoin has about 10 million times more hashpower than Amoveo.
Bitcoin rewards per day are about 400x bigger than Amoveo rewards per day.
So it seems like bitcoin mining is about 25000x more efficient than Amoveo mining.
How is this possible?
Possible causes of Bitcoin's high efficiency:
* ASICS instead of GPU use around 5x less electricity.
* moving to a part of the world where electricity is cheap saves around 10x the cost.
* Scaling up to big mining farms instead of small rigs probably saves 5x
So these factors can explain around 250x of the difference in efficiency. How do we explain the last 100x?
Either I forgot to include some reason, or I am mis-estimating one of the reasons.
05:50
Iridescence
Because not as many people know about Amoveo
05:51
Zack
Maybe you guys are spending $0.01 to mine $1 of Veo?
05:52
I guess the limiting factor now is that you don't want your house to be so hot.
The price of electricity isn't important
06:21
Zack
My 1 kilowatt electric stove makes the room uncomfortable after only 20 minutes.
It only costs about $0.04 in those 20 minutes.
06:21
Denis
The limiting factors are price of GPUs and price of electricity. Bitcoin ASICs are ~2000 times cheaper in term of $ per Gh/s, and ~ 600 times more efficient in watt per Gh
07:23
Zack
Given that info...
difference in hardware cost is 2000x.
electricity price by global location is 3.5x.
efficiency of scale is 3.5x.
So a difference in 25000x efficiency seems fairly reasonable at this stage.
This is a good sign that no one has better mining tools giving them an excessive advantage.

09:38
Watch youtube, buy, get started
09:39
J. Stone
can I ask what GPUs you are using, how many, and how many Amoveo blocks you're averaging per 24 hours?
09:39
O K
One gtx 1080 would get 1 amoveo in about 20 days
09:41
guess that is ROI in about 2 months probably at these prices, much quicker as the price rises.
09:41
assuming the same mining difficulty, which isn't going to happen
09:42
O K
You can rationalize all day 🤷♀️
09:47
I P
price won't rise for a long time i think
09:47
there is really no reason, i think it has been stable at 150-200$ per veo for some time now
09:48
so roi will get down because many more people come to mine veo but i don't see any problem
